The Best Vegan Matcha Latte Recipe

Ever since we started following a healthy diet we wanted to try a Matcha Latte Recipe. Unfortunately, where we live, it’s not even possible to find this amazing green powder, or at least it’s very difficult. We both love green tea, not only because of its health benefits but because we really love the taste of Matcha Green Tea.

You can’t imagine how happy we were when we went to an Organic Supermarket in Italy, on our recent travel, and saw several types of Matcha Teas available. 🙂 When we got home, we made our first Matcha Latte Tea, and trust us, if you haven’t tried already, this is the best green tea we ever tasted!
Matcha Latte Recipe
Let’s talk a little bit of Matcha tea origins. This amazing drink is one of the favorites in Japan. Japanese Matcha Tea is a fine powder made from a Camellia sinensis plant, using its leaves only. For the best quality of matcha, only the best leaves are handpicked, steamed, dried, destemmed, and deveined. Grinding is done by special machines nowadays, while traditionally was done by a stone mill.




 

 
This recipe is 100% vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free. You can use dairy milk if not vegan, but we prefer plant-based.

Matcha Latte

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 teaspoons Matcha powder
  • 3 tablespoons hot water
  • about 8.12 fl oz (240 ml) nondairy milk of your choice (refrigerator temperature)
  • maple syrup (or another sweetener)

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Prepare two cups or glasses and add 1 tablespoon of Matcha powder and sweetener of your choice (desired amount) in each cup. Pour about 1 1/2 tablespoon of hot water in each. Stir with a spoon or special bamboo matcha whisk (if you have one) until all the lumps are broken and smooth consistency is reached.
  • When done, prepare the milk: Use a larger pitcher for the milk (the one that can hold double the size of the milk amount needed for this recipe). If you use small you’ll have to repeat the process for another cup. For making creamy latte the best is to use a coffee machine with the nozzle. Just put the nozzle into the milk (about 2 cm deep) turn on the steam knob and start steaming. Rotate the steam knob to adjust the amount of steam you are adding to the milk. The milk will start to increase its volume. Heat until the desired temperature.
  • In the case, your coffee machine doesn’t have a nozzle, use a simple milk frother, and just froth the milk until it forms the bubbles. The result is always best when using a coffee machine.
  • Add the milk to already prepared cups with matcha tea.
