Vegan Chocolate Energy Balls
These healthy Vegan Chocolate Energy Balls are a perfect snack for all of you who like chocolate. I like to call this recipe a “chocolate version” of Vegan Sugar-Free Energy Balls recipe, I posted a month ago.
I caught myself preparing these balls over and over :), and then I decided to modify a recipe a bit and make them even better! If you like chocolate, and if you like sweets with whole nuts inside, this is a perfect and extra fast recipe you can prepare.
Chocolate energy bites are a great afternoon or post workout snack as well. Vegan chocolate energy balls are 100% vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, healthy, and tasty! This is one of those recipes you can make in 20 minutes! 🙂
That is the main reason why I am preparing these vegan chocolate energy balls so often. I have a tight schedule, but as every human being I have cravings for something sweet, so these are ideal for me, and I hope for you too.
Prep time: 10 min Cook time: 5 min Total: 15 min Servings: 9
INGREDIENTS
- 4.8 oz (135g) of whole Medjool Dates (about 16 small to medium size dates)
- 7 tablespoons of walnuts
- 4 tablespoons of sesame flour (you can use almond flour if you don’t have sesame)
- 1 teaspoon of ground flax seeds
- 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
- 3.5oz (100g) of dark semi-sweet chocolate
- about 1.4oz (40g) of whole roasted hazelnuts
- (optional) 1-2 tablespoons of cocoa powder
INSTRUCTIONS
- Break the chocolate into small pieces and add it in the food processor and process on high until finely ground. (Make sure that the chocolate was on the room temperature before you start grinding it.)
- Add dates to a food processor and process on high until everything is combined.
- Add walnuts, sesame flour, flax seeds, and vanilla extract and grind again until a dough begins to form.
- Move the processed mixture to a bowl and add melted chocolate.
- Form mixture into balls adding, in the center of each ball, one hazelnut. Repeat until no dough remains.
- Roll the balls into the cocoa powder (if you want)
- Serve and enjoy your Chocolate Energy Balls the way you like!
NOTES
- Try to use soft dates (100% dates without any artificial sugars added). If you are using very dry dates then soak them in the water for about 10-15 min.
- You don’t have to roll them into cocoa powder if you don’t want to :). I did that only for a few balls.
- From this mixture, I got 19 Vegan chocolate energy balls.
