Brown Lentil Hummus Recipe

Homemade hummus like this Brown Lentil Hummus is one of the favorite dips for all vegans! Who doesn’t like it, right? You can easily spread it on toast, add in salads, spread on crackers, etc… Avoid buying hummus at grocery stores, it most cases they are full of preservatives and other ingredients bad for your health.

What I personally like about hummus is that it can be made very easily and it won’t take a lot of time. All you need to do is to add all the ingredients into a food processor and mix :). Yes, it’s that easy!

The most famous hummus is definitely the Chickpea Hummus. But did you know that you can flavor your famous creamy dip with any beans, even some fruits? Yes! There are so many choices, white or black beans, avocado, carrot, lentils, etc..




 

This time I decided to try making a Homemade Brown Lentil Hummus. The texture is so creamy, so soft, and delicious. I garnished it with ground paprika, which gave it a really nice flavor. This recipe is 100% vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, and healthy!
Homemade Brown Lentil Hummus

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup brown lentils
  • juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 3 tablespoons of tahini
  • 3 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil (leave 1 to garnish the finished hummus)
  • 2/3 teaspoon of Himalayan salt (or other if you prefer)
  • 1 tablespoon of reserved liquid from cooking lentils
  • 1 teaspoon of ground red paprika for garnishing

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Rinse the lentils first, then add them to a medium-size saucepan and cover with 3 cups of water. Heat to boiling and then reduce to simmer. Simmer for about 20 minutes – until lentils are tender.
  • Drain the water (save 1 tablespoon of it).
  • Into a food processor add cooked lentils, lemon juice, garlic clove, tahini, 2 tbsp olive oil, salt, and 1 tbsp of reserved liquid from cooking lentils and mix for about 1 minute until smooth.
  • Transfer the mixture to a prepared jar or another dish. Garnish with olive oil and ground paprika.
